Measure draw length and draw weight to help order arrows and longbows
There are a few things people either get wrong or simply don't know how to do that can prevent them from ordering a bow or set of arrows correctly. Mainly their draw length and the weight of their existing bow at their own particular draw length. Hopefully this video will clear a few of these things up and explain why they are important when ordering your archery equipment, particularly the English Longbow.

    When refurbishing something that was made that long ago, do you find learn something new? As in do you notice that the old makers did their tips differently, the handle raps differently, the tillerbis slightly different? Things of this nature. And have you ever started using something you learned in this manner?

    Another nice simple to understand video. My only query would be where you measure draw length too. You appeared to measure to the back of the bow. I would have thought true draw length was the distance between the heal of your hand on the belly of the bow and where the string finishes at anchor. Obviously a safe arrow length would usually be about 1 3/4 to 2 inches longer than your draw length. Its not really that critical if you are doing the measuring and checking draw weight as you just draw the bow the same distance on the measuring stick, but it can be confusing when people say they have a certain length draw but in reality its probably an inch or two shorter. Any guidance gratefully received.

    • @longbows
      @longbows 12 дней назад

      English Longbow is a design, the Victorian sporting bow, not all the bows in this box are made by Muir, it's just the name of the design, not a designation of where they are from, I am from Wales and make bows in Wales, the type of bow shown here and what I make are still English Longbows...as I say, Cheddar is a type of cheese made a certain way and can still be called Cheddar no matter where it is made.

    • @longbows
      @longbows 16 дней назад

      its not off centre, it's on the centre, an English Longbow (not a Warbow) has a handle section, similar to a riser section i.e. the handle doesn't move. if we were to place the handle below the centre, meaning the arrow sits directly at the centre, the bottom limb would be about 4 inches shorter than the top, so we push the handle up a bit above the centre to even put the keniof the limbs, the top limb is still longer that the bottom.
